LG XF1 HO hum multimedia hard drive

Posted by mohan desai on જુલાઇ 18, 2009

For a portable home theater, an aesthetically pleasing form factor is as important as versatile format support. What we have here is LG’s first mobile multimedia hard drive – XF1. Measuring a 20.8mm in thickness, the XF1 features a gorgeous gloss-black finish with smooth curves, and internally, it has a 500GB and a codec decoder that only reads exclusively FAT32 and NTFS. So, it’s not as Mac-friendly as we would have hoped.
Around the back, you’ll find a HDMI connector, a power plug, a composite AV output, and a mini-USB jack. The drive, unlike the WD TV HD, has on-onboard touch-sensitive buttons for navigation when you forget to bring along a remote. Video and sound codec compatibility are isn’t too shabby, including OGG Vobis and AC3 for audio, but the lack of H.264, WMV and MKV is really a letdown even if the XF1 can playback MPEG-2, DivX and MPEG-4 in HD resolutions, up to 1080i. With choice like LaCie Rugged HD, LG will be fighting an uphill battle if they don’t rectify their mistake

LG launches app store, initial focus on Asia

Posted by mohan desai on જુલાઇ 13, 2009

LG Electronics Inc, the world’s No. 3 handset maker, is launching an online store for mobile phone applications Tuesday with an initial focus on Asia and aspirations for a more global reach by year-end.
Phone makers and mobile firms worldwide are in a race to match the success of Apple’s App Store, creating their own virtual stores where users can download software and content.
Improving software is key for South Korean mobile phone makers Samsung and LG, which have grown on well-priced handsets but are lagging in the fast-growing smartphowne category.
LG, which trails Nokia and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in mobile phones, said in a statement on Monday that the “LG Application Store” would provide 1,400 applications including 100 free programs, available in 15 languages.
The service will first be offered in Asia-Pacific countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Australia and will reach Europe and the South America by the end of this year, with the number of applications to be offered to increase to more than 2,000 by then, LG said.
LG has not set any firm plan to launch the marketplace in the United States, the stronghold of Apple’s iPhone and Research In Motion’s Blackberry.
Shares in LG Electronics fell 1.6 percent by 0204 GMT, compared with the wider market’s 2 percent loss.

LG Network Monitor is a solution that can redistribute the remaining 90 percent of a PC’s resources to several users, simultaneously, thereby, reducing the TCO up to 60 percent, the company claimed.
LG monitor will allow as many as 11 users to share a single PC for a total cost of Rs. 10,400 to Rs. 11,800.
